Is Autumn My Favourite Season?

I’m not sure if it’s the soft golden light, the abundance of flowers, or the gentle shift in the landscape — but every year I find myself wondering if autumn might just be my favourite season?

After the brightness of summer, autumn arrives with its own kind of quiet magic. The last of the summer blooms, hang on just long enough to give us one more burst of colour before the air turns crisp. Their delicate petals, fading pastels and soft movement make this a dreamy moment for floral design.

Then comes the true autumn palette: deep rusts, ochres, plums and soft browns. Dahlias reach their peak in every shape and size, cosmos dance in the breeze, and delicate grasses catch the light like spun gold. There’s a sense that nature is giving us her final show before winter arrives — and it’s impossible not to fall in love with it.

Autumn also feels like the season where it makes perfect sense to borrow from nature. Hedgerows are filled with treasure: rosehips, berries, seed heads, turning leaves, twisting vines and naturally dried stems that add character and texture to anything you create. Foraging becomes part of the ritual — a quiet moment to step outside, take note of what the season is offering, and bring a little of that beauty indoors.

It’s also the time for autumn wreaths, porch styling, and harvest-inspired arrangements. Designs become looser, wilder and more textured — full of movement and warm, seasonal tones.

As the trees begin to shed their leaves, we’re reminded that this season is all about transition; letting go, making space, and celebrating what nature gives us before it rests.

So yes… maybe autumn is my favourite.

A season of colour, texture, abundance and creativity — and the perfect time to Borrow from nature.
